Complete Guide to Notification Channels

Monitor Changes supports 5 different notification channels to keep you informed about website changes. Whether you prefer email, team chat notifications, or custom integrations, we've got you covered.

📧 Email Notifications

The most traditional and reliable notification method. Email notifications are sent directly to your inbox with detailed information about detected changes, including screenshots and links to review differences.

Best for: Detailed reports, backup notifications, and users who prefer email workflows.

💬 Slack Notifications

Send notifications directly to your Slack channels using webhooks. Perfect for team collaboration and real-time alerts when changes are detected.

Setup:

  1. Go to your Slack workspace
  2. Navigate to Apps → Incoming Webhooks
  3. Create a new webhook for your desired channel
  4. Copy the webhook URL (starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/)
  5. Paste it in Monitor Changes Settings → Channels

Best for: Team notifications, marketing teams, and real-time collaboration.

🔗 Webhook Notifications

Generic HTTPS webhooks for custom integrations. Send notifications to any endpoint that accepts POST requests, making it easy to integrate with Zapier, IFTTT, or your own custom systems.

Use cases:

  • Custom monitoring dashboards
  • Integration with existing alerting systems
  • Automation workflows via Zapier or IFTTT
  • Internal notification services

Best for: DevOps teams, custom integrations, and automated workflows.

📱 Telegram Notifications

Get notifications via Telegram bot messages. Perfect for mobile alerts and personal notifications when you're away from your computer.

Setup:

  1. Message @BotFather on Telegram
  2. Send /newbot command and follow instructions
  3. Save your bot token
  4. Add your bot to the target chat/channel
  5. Get your chat ID (use @userinfobot or similar)
  6. Configure both token and chat ID in Monitor Changes

Best for: Personal notifications, mobile alerts, and users who prefer Telegram.

🎮 Discord Notifications

Send notifications to Discord channels using webhooks. Great for community management and keeping Discord communities informed about website updates.

Setup:

  1. Go to your Discord server
  2. Navigate to Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks
  3. Create a new webhook for your desired channel
  4. Copy the webhook URL (starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/)
  5. Paste it in Monitor Changes Settings → Channels

Best for: Community management, Discord-based teams, and gaming communities.

Configuration Tips

Multiple Channels

You can configure multiple notification channels for redundancy. For example, set up both email and Slack notifications to ensure you never miss important changes.

Channel Selection per Task

When creating or updating tasks, you can choose which channels to use for each specific monitoring task. This allows you to use different notification strategies for different types of pages.

Security Considerations

  • All webhook URLs must use HTTPS for security
  • Slack and Discord webhooks are validated against their official domains
  • Telegram bot tokens and chat IDs are encrypted and stored securely
  • Webhook URLs are never logged in plain text

Best Practices

For Marketing Teams

Use Slack notifications for immediate team alerts when landing pages change. This ensures your marketing team can quickly respond to unauthorized edits or unexpected changes.

For QA Engineers

Configure email notifications for detailed change reports and screenshots. Email provides a permanent record of changes and detailed visual comparisons.

For Product Managers

Set up Telegram notifications for mobile alerts on critical page changes. This ensures you're notified immediately, even when away from your desk.

For DevOps Teams

Use webhooks to integrate with monitoring systems and alerting tools. This allows you to incorporate website monitoring into your existing infrastructure monitoring.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  • Email not received: Check spam folder and verify email address
  • Slack notifications not working: Verify webhook URL and check if webhook is still active
  • Webhook not triggered: Ensure URL uses HTTPS and endpoint is accessible
  • Telegram notifications not working: Verify bot token, chat ID, and bot permissions
  • Discord notifications not working: Verify webhook URL and check webhook permissions

Validation Errors

  • "Invalid URL format": Check for typos and ensure proper URL formatting
  • "URL must use HTTPS": Change HTTP to HTTPS in your webhook URL
  • "Invalid Slack webhook URL": Ensure URL starts with https://hooks.slack.com/services/
  • "Invalid Discord webhook URL": Ensure URL starts with https://discord.com/api/webhooks/
